What: Photo Shoot to Whitewater Draw in SE Arizona. Experience the thrill of viewing thousands of Sandhill Cranes - and a host of other birds, too - without leaving Arizona!
When: Tuesday, January 15th, returning on Wednesday, January 16th 2019.
Where: White Water Draw is a State Wildlife Area in SE Arizona, several miles from the town of Bisbee. In the winter, thousands of Sandhill Cranes inhabit the reserve and migrate daily to feed in the local farm fields. Along with the cranes, flocks of Snow Geese also winter in the reserve. The area is home to many other species of birds, from ducks and shore birds to hawks and eagles.

Who: On a first come/first served basis group size limit of 8 Club Members.
Camera Equipment Requirements: Any and all cameras, including smartphones. A telephoto lens is a must to photograph birds. A tripod and cable release are recommended, though not a necessity. Binoculars might be considered a necessity by birders!
Additional Information: Average January temperatures are highs of 63 and lows of 31 degrees, so dress appropriately with warm clothing and layers. Additional photo shoot details will follow for those signing up.
Itinerary: An overnight photo shoot close to the town of Bisbee in S.E. Arizona. After checking in to our hotel, we’ll drive to White Water Draw for a late afternoon bird walk and sunset – think reflections in beautiful light. Dinner will follow back in Bisbee.
The next day we’ll have breakfast in town, then head to the preserve to see the cranes fly in from the fields and settle on the water. This will provide a wonderful opportunity to photograph birds in flight and as they come in to land. Lunch will be back in Bisbee before returning to SCG, arriving home at approximately 7:00 pm.
Lodging: One night’s accommodation at Gymclub Suites varies from $110:00 to $130:00. Individual cost will vary depending on number of people sharing (Suites have various configurations).
Meals: There are several good restaurants in Bisbee that can handle the group needs for meals. Participants will purchase their own meals. Brings snacks and drinks to keep energy up as time between meals is quite long.
Entrance Fees: There is no cost for White Water Draw State Park.
Car Pools: We will meet in the parking lot outside of Angela's at 8:15 am to form car pools and depart at 8:30 am. Use the parking lot on the south side of Remington drive farthest from the restaurant. Gas costs will be approximately $82.00 to be shared among passengers.
