  • To become a Featured Artist, send queries and desired month(s) to the Showcase Coordinator: Sue Petry

Photographers' Showcase

This venue is the large wall exhibit area that features multiple member bi-monthly displays.

Guidelines:

  • Any member may submit up to three ready-to-hang prints for any/each themed event.  The following standardization of print presentation is intended to further the professionalism and eye appeal of our member showcases, individually and collectively.
    • All framed and matted prints: submit in ready-to-hang black frames not to exceed 16" x 20" and matted with white or off-white mats.
    • Black-framed unmatted prints are acceptable with the natural color of the photo paper serving as the mat, not to exceed 16" x 20".
    • Unframed canvas and board-mounted prints are acceptable, not to exceed 16" x 20".
    • Straight thin-foam backed prints (without a frame), not to exceed 16" x 20" are acceptable but are discouraged as they are difficult to hang straight.
  • See the Showcase Schedule below for 2024 - 2025 themes.
  • New print submission and print pick-up is Monday & Wednesday preceding the new display hanging, the third Friday of the month.
  • Prints not picked up will be stored in locked cabinet #9 or in the digital darkroom if outsized.

Exploring the Beauty of Southwest Geology: Our geologic record extends more than 2 billion years with episodic mountain building, rock folding, faulting, uplifting, erosion to create some of the world’s most beautiful rock scapes and formations. Whether you are wowed by unique formations above or below ground or the subtlety of design in sandstone, share your geologic impressions.

November 20, 2026 – Urban Wildlife: Featuring the animals that have adapted to living among us, coexisting with humans and often overlooked and underappreciated for their subtle beauty and adaptive behavior. Consider images that feature the juxtaposition of animals and their human environment.

January 15, 2027 – Architectural Abstracts: Photographic Images that transform buildings into unique art by emphasizing design elements - line, shape, pattern, texture, color, or the play of light and shadow  that perhaps renders original subject matter unrecognizable.  Give free reign to your imagination with unique perspectives and viewpoints.

March 19, 2027 – Open Theme in Monochrome: Your favorite subject matter rendered in black and white or other monochromatic scheme. These photographs will focus on contrast, tone, and the play of light and shadow to convey emotion and visual impact.

May 21, 2027 – Between Here and There: Most of us are destination photographers – storing our cameras away until we reach that perfect photo op. Sometimes, however, on the way to that planned shoot, chance and an astute eye will see an opportunity that comes unbidden and just might surpass any planned photograph. Share those unplanned images that are perhaps nowhere and no place but are unforgettable visual moments for you.

Note: The May gallery might extend through the summer.  Consider if you are willing to leave your print in the studio or make arrangements to remove it before you depart for the summer.
