About this event
The Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is an old Spanish Land Grant ranch on the Rio Grande River bottom that is strategically flooded each year to provide cover and feed for the thousands of Sand Hill Cranes and about 100,000 snow geese that flock there in winter months. The feed, cover, and water provided for the cranes also attracts a variety of other birds and mammals of all sizes and shapes to include elk, mule deer, javelinas and an occasional mountain lion. One can expect to see a variety of raptors including bald eagles. The wonderful, and often very colorful, fall scenery with the mountains as a backdrop to exquisite sunrise and sunsets is a bonus.
