ACCC, PSA, Grand Canyon Circuit and other Affiliates

We encourage our members to go beyond Grand Photos competitions and enter their best images in other events.  Here are some of the available opportunities offered through our affiliates:

ACCC (Arizona Camera Club Council) Arnie Becker is the Grand Photos rep to ACCC.

ACCC is composed of Arizona photo clubs, most are in the greater Phoenix area, but some are from other areas such as Prescott, Sedona and Payson, hence it is a statewide photography organization.  ACCC conducts two photographic competitions each year as part of its Spring and Fall “Round-ups” which gather photographers from around the state for a Saturday of food, photography and instruction. Competition entries are displayed and awards are made during the Round-ups. Members of Grand Photos enter images in these competitions and attend the Round-ups.

Full information about the ACCC Round-ups (including the dates, programs and registration information), and competitions  (including rules, categories, entry methods and deadlines) can be found on the ACCC website at:  The most recent edition of the ACCC newsletter, the Chronicle, can be found on the ACCC website.
Two types of entries may be submitted to the Round-ups – Prints and Digital (projected) images.  All Digital images are entered online, however, each club collects the Prints submitted by its own members and delvers them to the ACCC Board meeting about one month preceding each Round-up.

The 2018 Fall Roundup will be held on Saturday November 10, 2018 at the Towerpoint Resort in Mesa.  For details and to register, visit the ACCC  website: You can download and mail the registration form.  On-line registration is pending ACCC's action. Grand Photos Print entries for the ACCC Fall 2018 Round-up will be collected on Wednesday, September 26th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the Grand Photos Studio.  If you are unable to download the required labels from the ACCC website, they will be available for you to fill out and place on the upper left hand corner on the back of each print when you come to the turn in.  $1.00 per print must be paid in cash or check made out to ACCC at that turn-in.  Arnie Becker, our ACCC representative, will deliver your Print entries to the ACCC Board at its next meeting.  Digital entries are due before 11:59 PM, October 12th.  The rotating category for the Spring Round-up is "Repitition".

Some Grand Photos' members enter both the Spring and Fall Grand Photos Competitions as well as the ACCC Spring and Fall Round-ups.  Because of this, we try to adjust the dates of Grand Photos Competitions and Turn-ins so they do not overlap the ACCC dates and, if possible, allow time for Prints to be returned from ACCC in time to re-enter for Grand Photos.

Any questions or comments regarding ACCC or Grand Photos participation in ACCC should be addressed to Arnie Becker at

PSA (Photographic Society of America) is a worldwide photographic organization which Grand Photos belongs to.  An annual meeting at a different location in the US is held each fall (recent meeting were held at West Yellowstone and in Albuquerque).  This coming fall the conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas September 11 to 18.   There are many speakers and events taking place at the conference.  For information, see the PSA website ( and the monthly magazine (PSA Journal) that is in the Grand Photos library.
Besides competitions, a number of Grand Photos members are extremely involved in PSA activities.  (Stan Bormann just completed two years as Conference Vice President and is currently the Society Secretary.)  Sue Marrugi, another former Grand Photos president is Editor of the PSA Journal, Margaret (Peg) Boike is Who’s Who Director and Shirley Bormann is Secretary of the Photo Travel Division.
Other PSA supported activities that Grand Photos members often participate in are listed below:

PSA – Photo Travel Interclub Competition
This competition is available free of charge to all clubs belonging to PSA (Photographic Society of America).  (Grand Photos participates and Shirley Bormann is our coordinator.)

There are three competitions annually.  Each new competition year starts November 15, with the remaining competitions on February 15 and May 15.   For each competition each club is encouraged to submit 6 different images from 6 different photographers depicting Photo Travel from any geographical area.

Participants in the club send two digital (1024x768 pixel) Photo Travel images (see definition below) by e-mail to the club coordinator (Shirley) at  three times each year by preannounced dates.    Those interested individuals who are available will be notified of a meeting in the Grand Photos clubroom several weeks prior to the submission date to narrow down the images to one image each.    Images are viewed by the members and occasionally suggestions are made as to how to make an image even better.  Each person’s best image is voted on later by email by the participants who choose which image they think will do best in the competition.  The highest 6 scores get submitted to PSA to be judged. When the images are judged, they are awarded points – normally from 1-5 points each from each of the 3 judges so the total score will be anywhere from 9-15 points.  The total points awarded for each club (combining all the points for the six images) are cumulative until the last contest for the season is over.  (In the 2014-2015 season, Grand Photos came in 2nd place in our division and 4th overall out of approximately 40 plus participating clubs throughout the world.)  After the first round in this current season, we are in first place in our division.

According to PSA’s definition of Photo Travel images –The image should look natural – as you saw it. As of January 1, 2016, the definition of a Photo Travel image is:
“A Photo Travel image expresses the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally.    There are no geographic limitations.  Images from events or activities arranged specifically for photography, or of subjects directed or hired for photography are not appropriate.  Close up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the environment.  Techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted.  The only allowable adjustments are removal of dust or digital noise, restoration of the appearance of the original scene, and complete conversion to greyscale monochrome.  Other derivations, including infrared, are not permitted.  All allowed adjustments must appear natural.”
The date when images need to be submitted to Shirley Bormann at
will be announced.  Grand Photos hosts both Projected Image Division competitions and Photo Travel Competitions.
Grand Photos also participates in the Grand Canyon circuit.  This is a circuit competition sponsored by PSA.  For the upcoming competition there are six clubs involved so there will be a total of 6 judgings.  The categories will be announced at the time of the Circuit announcement.  See their website for more details
