An interactive discussion, slide presentation, and practical exercises in creating photographic images and narrative essays that create a sense of place, “… the lens through which people experience and make meaning of their experiences in and with place.”  (Adams, 2013)

In this three-session class we will discuss how to communicate our feelings and perceptions about places we visit in order to give our viewers a more compelling narrative.  We will also introduce ways for making creative presentations and an opportunity to share your presentation with the class (date for the third session to be determined by the class).

This will be done through:

  • Review and discussion of past and current photographic works that provide examples of a sense of place
  • Participation in simple classroom exercises to further instill concepts discussed
  •  A group campus photoshoot to demonstrate and practice tips and techniques discussed
  • Creation of an individual “Sense of Place” photo essay of your individual perceptions of SCG for sharing.

This class offers ideal opportunities for new members, participants with smartphones, point and shoot, mirrorless and DSLR cameras.

Instructors: Pam Careau and Naomi Brown

Experience Level: Beginner, intermediate, advanced

Equipment: You will need a flashdrive for downloading images for your essay creation.

Registration: REQUIRED

This class will open for registration October 1, 2019
